Growth, Maturation, and Long-term Athletic Development: A Starter Guide
Here’s a quick introduction and overview of the age-related changes in physical performance and the training of youth & adolescents.
First and foremost - understand “the system” (normal growth & maturation) before considering training programs & training adaptations.
Most of these changes in physical qualities or physical fitness traits can be explained thru Scammon's general curve. To learn more about Scammon’s Curves see this previous blog.
...and it's not physical training that impacts the development of these characteristics the most. It's Genes, Hormones and Nutrients.
…..physical activity and exercise training are minor aspects!!
